Bioinformatics Project

(For the Development of Bioinformatics in India)

Sevas Educational Society", a non-governmental organization, located in Andhra Pradesh, South India, has taken an initiative to distribute bioinformatics information to satisfy the needs of biotechnologists.

Project Aim:  The aim of the project is to distribute bioinformatics knowledge to all educational institutes present in India.

Background & Objective:

1. Experts are available in cities but most of the engineering colleges located in and around villages are suffering from lack of faculty experts in bioinformatics. The society aspires to teach bioinformatics using self explanatory video tutorials with minimum guidance or no guidance (Watching video movies and learning concepts).

3. Once faculties become experts in bioinformatics and with the help of them they can teach anyone who wants bioinformatics.

Society approach to disseminate bioinformatics knowledge:

1.      Using Video Tutorial Cds with minimum guidance.

(Free Distribution of tutorials present in the copy disks are allowed for academic purpose)

2.      The enrollees who are not interested in seeing video tutorials can join our online correspondence course  (i.e. faculty will be available one hour per day up to the end of course duration of one month (To get basic idea on bioinformatics).

3.      After learning bioinformatics people can join as faculties to teach more number of people.

September 16th - 2007:

Project initiation by the society: September, 16th - 2007

The society has released Video Tutorial CDs, supported by Chairman Mr.RVGK Ranga Rao, of the Degree College named "RSRK Ranga Rao College", Bobbili Town (Near Komatipalli Village), Vizianagaram (Dt), Andhra Pradesh (St), South India.

But the faculties are not interested because of the complex procedure explained in the CDs which required more computational knowledge to use these CDs for learning bioinformatics.

The society has done four months extensive research to improve the quality of CDs, to reduce computational usage in learning bioinformatics concepts. The society has given the CDs to some students, persons who don’t know computers etc…. and monitored them how they will learn bioinformatics and other computational skills.

March 15th - 2008:

The society has distributed Video Tutorial CDs (Library Copies) to all libraries present in 58 engineering colleges which offer Engineering biotechnology course in Andhra Pradesh (St) and Karnataka (St) and asked them to distribute it for their development.

May 10th - 2008:

The society aims to contact all educational institutes to assign one person to join in SEVAS organization and avail all services offered by the society i.e. free guidance for international publications in SEVAS Journal "Journal of Biochemical Technology", or Learning Matlab using Video Tutorial Movies, online faculty in bioinformatics etc..... and use these CDs for the development of their organization

Video Tutorial CD Contents: (Watch Movies & Learn Concepts)

(>20 hours of animations explaining 124 software tools)

Basic bioinformatics tools including MatLab, Tinker (Energy Minimization) etc.....

The video tutorial CDs are free of cost but they can be procured only by giving some amount as donation as minimum of

                                          Rs. 250/- (in India)

Rs. 400 (in other Countries) ($10)

                           Donation Details........

Educational Institutes can promote this project by giving minimum donation of Rs. 10, 000/-

(Teaching ten faculties free of cost)

Funding agencies can promote us by giving minimum donation of Rs. 10,00,000/-

(Approximate maintenance cost of this project per year)

Online submission of License Application Form as an E-Mail Attachment is also accepted. After receiving License Application Form the society issue License identification Number which can be helpful in further communication with the society.

Note: CDs would not be delivered until the License Application Form is filled and submitted properly. Please contribute more amounts to the society so that it will be helpful for distributing information to more number of educational institutes.
